The Best Layered Bean Dip Recipe {With Ground Beef)
If you’re looking for a dish that works just as well for dinner as it does for an appetizer, this layered bean dip is a longtime favorite in our house.
I’ve been making this recipe for years, and my kids love it so much they’ll eat it straight from a bowl—no chips needed. It’s warm, filling, flavorful, and packed with protein if you keep the ground beef in!

Serving Suggestions
This dip is incredibly versatile. It’s great served with tortilla chips, veggie sticks, or even by the spoonful for little ones who aren’t into dipping. We often enjoy it as a full dinner—it’s that satisfying.
If you’re low on time or want to serve this more as an appetizer, feel free to skip the ground beef and even the black beans. It will still taste delicious, just with less protein.

How to Make This Layered Bean Dip Low-Carb
To reduce the carbs in this dish, here are a few easy tweaks:
Use a low-carb brand of refried beans or skip them altogether and double the ground beef
Swap tortilla chips for bell pepper slices, celery sticks, pork rinds, or low-carb crackers
Choose a salsa with no added sugar or use diced tomatoes with green chiles
Use full-fat dairy for the cream cheese and sour cream
Load up on the meat and cheese to boost protein and fat

Variations On Bean Dip
Short on time? Skip the beef or black beans to make it faster—it still tastes great and makes a perfect party dip.
Want more spice? Add sliced jalapeños or use a spicy salsa.
Need more protein? Add extra ground beef or swap in shredded chicken.
Don’t have cream cheese? Greek yogurt works as a substitute for the sour cream and cream cheese blend.
This is one of those recipes that adapts well to whatever you have on hand and whatever your dietary needs are. I hope your family enjoys it as much as mine does!
