When we moved to Georgia in 2022, we really had no idea how much the state had to offer. But, just a little exploring near our new home was enough to show us that this part of the country is a not just a wonderful place to live, but also a great destination for families looking for a fun vacation!

1. Tybee Island
Tybee Island is a great place to take the family for a beach vacation. Its also one of our family’s favorite Georgia vacation spots. With its wide, sandy beaches and calm waters, it’s perfect for swimming, sunbathing, and building sandcastles. There are also plenty of restaurants and shops to explore, as well as a historic lighthouse to climb.
Located less than 30 minutes away from Savannah, Tybee Island has many vacation rentals that are perfect for families, no matter the season!
2. Stone Mountain Park
Stone Mountain Park is a must-visit destination for families in Georgia. The park offers a variety of activities, including hiking, biking, and camping.
The highlight of the park is the massive granite rock carving of Confederate leaders on the side of Stone Mountain. There are also daily laser shows, a scenic railroad, and a skyride to the top of the mountain.
Our first visit to Stone Mountain was to see the lightshow for Independance Day, and it did not dissapoint! During the Christmas season, they feature the biggest light show in the country! There are always events scheduled, so make sure to check the calendar when planning your visit.

Savannah is a charming city that is perfect for a family vacation. Take a stroll through the historic district, visit the Savannah Children’s Museum, or take a riverboat tour. There are also plenty of restaurants and shops to explore, as well as beautiful parks and gardens to enjoy.
We took our family of 6 on this trolley tour, and everyone loved it! We were able to explore the city and learn history without having to navigate through traffic.
5. North Georgia Mountains
The North Georgia Mountains are a popular destination for families looking to escape the city. The area is known for its charming small towns, such as Dahlonega and Helen, which offer unique shopping and dining experiences. One of the most exciting activities at the Georgia Aquarium is the chance to swim or dive with the whale sharks. It’s an incredible experience that your kids will never forget. The aquarium also offers sleepovers where you can spend the night with the animals!
Right next door to the aquarium is another must-visit place in Georgia with kids. World of Coca-Cola is an interactive museum that takes you through the history of the world’s most famous soft drink. You can learn about the secret formula, see how the drink is bottled, and even taste different flavors from around the world.

Don’t miss a visit to Zoo Atlanta! This zoo is one of the oldest and most popular zoos in the country. It’s right in the city, but feels like a little oasis. We loved the variety of animals, and the easy-to-get-to location.
