Valentine’s Day Love Notes Board With Dollar Tree Supplies

This Valentine’s love notes board is one of my favorite Valentine DIY projects. It costs just a few dollars, takes less than 30 minutes to make, and it turns into a daily reminder of kindness, encouragement, and connection.

Valentine’s Day has slowly turned into one of my favorite holidays to decorate for — not because it’s fancy, but because it gives us an excuse to slow down and remind our kids just how deeply loved they are.

Valentine’s Day Love Notes Board With Dollar Tree Supplies

With four kids in our home, I’m always looking for ways to make simple traditions that actually mean something.

And the best part? Every single supply came from Dollar Tree.

Supplies (Dollar Tree Finds)

Wood heart décor
Felt heart stickers
Mini clothespins
Baker’s twine (red & white)
Valentine ribbon (XOXO or heart patterns)
Foam or felt heart shapes
Hot glue gun or craft glue
Scissors
White cardstock or scrap paper for notes
Fine-tip marker or pen

How to Make the Heart Love Notes Board

Step 1. Prep Your Base

Start with a wooden heart from Dollar Tree. If you want a colored background, cut a heart shape out of felt or cardstock and glue it onto the wood base.

Step 2. Add the Twine Lines

Cut 3–4 strips of baker’s twine slightly wider than the heart.

Glue each piece diagonally across the heart, spacing them evenly from top to bottom. These become the “lines” for clipping your love notes.

Step 3. Make the Bow

Tie a classic bow, then glue it to the top center of the heart. This adds that gift-wrapped look that makes it feel extra special.

Step 4. Clip the Felt Hearts

Use mini clothespins to clip felt hearts directly onto the twine lines. You can layer colors like pink, red, and white or mix foam and felt textures.

Step 5. Write Your Love Notes

Cut small squares of white paper and write short messages for each child.

Clip the notes onto the twine using clothespins — you can even attach tiny felt hearts to the pins like shown in the photos.

Step 6. Personalize It

Add your child’s name on a tiny label or slip of paper and glue or clip it onto the heart.

Ways to Use the Love Notes

You can rotate the notes daily as a Valentine’s countdown, or swap them weekly during February.

Decoration Variations

Change the look each year with these Dollar Tree swaps.

• Add glitter hearts or foam stickers
• Use pastel hearts for a softer theme
• Swap ribbon patterns for buffalo check, lace, or burlap
• Add artificial flowers at the top corners
• Paint the wood heart before assembling
• Create one large family heart or one heart for each child

Why This Works So Well

This isn’t just Valentine décor — it becomes a daily conversation starter. The kids read their notes every morning before school, and it’s such a small thing that leaves a big impression.

It costs only a few dollars, takes hardly any time, and builds memories that last long after the candy is gone.

This is one of those simple traditions that I know we’ll keep bringing out every February — because love, encouragement, and a few handwritten notes will never go out of style!
