Favorite Fall Activities in Atlanta and Georgia: 2025
Fun for the whole family!
The temperature has been dropping this week in Georgia, and it makes me want to drink hot cocoa, wear scarves, and look at leaves. This was the season we all dreamed about in the height of the summer heat and humidity, and I love it.
This is also the perfect time of year to explore the many family-friendly activities in Atlanta and its surrounding areas. With the cooler temperatures, strolling through the zoo or exploring downtown feels a lot more comfortable!
In this blog post, we listed our favorite family-friendly activities to do in and around Atlanta in the fall.
1. Georgia Aquarium:
The Georgia Aquarium ranks as the largest aquarium in the US, and fourth largest in the world. From the moment you walk in the doors, there are no shortage of fun things to see and experience. Explore the exhibits and get up close with fascinating marine creatures, including dolphins, beluga whales, sea otters and penguins. Don’t miss the daily shows and interactive experiences that will leave your family in awe. The dolphin show is a must-see!
2. Zoo Atlanta:
For being in the middle of the city, Zoo Atlanta feels like a secluded paradise! This zoo is home to a diverse range of animals from around the world. You can stroll through the exhibits, observe the playful antics of pandas, lions, and gorillas, and participate in educational programs that promote conservation and animal welfare. Our favorites are the rhinoceros, and the beautiful red panda with its fuzzy tail! The zoo is beautiful and well-laid out. They offer free admission to Military and children under 3 years old.
3. Corn Mazes:
We love a corn maze! Nothing tires our toddler out like running in the twists and turns. Several farms in and around Atlanta, such as Uncle Shuck’s Corn Maze, offer exciting mazes for for all ages. Washington Farms in Bogart, GA, has a fun corn maze as well as over 30 activities and attractions. Our favorite was the ropes course and super fast slides. Make some family memories while testing your navigation skills, and enjoy a day of outdoor fun.
4. Apple Picking in North Georgia:
Escape the city and head to North Georgia for a quintessential fall activity – apple picking! In Ellijay, GA, you can visit orchards like B J Reece Orchards, and Hillcrest Orchards, where you can pick your own apples, enjoy hay rides, indulge in apple treats, and soak in the beautiful autumn scenery. Even just the ride there and back is a treat. We love to pick up some peach cider from one of the many farm stands to enjoy on Thanksgiving!
5. Blue Ridge Scenic Railway:
We visited Blue Ridge recently, and the natural beauty was breathtaking! The Blue Ridge Scenic Railway starts in downtown Blue Ridge, and passes through quaint towns and along the Toccoa River. The roundtrip journey takes four hours and offers gorgeous views all along the way. What a fun way to experience fall for the littles who love engines!
6. Stone Mountain Park:
Stone Mountain Park is a 3200 acre park full of family-friendly fun. They have lots of fun activities through the fall, and its the perfect place to enjoy the cooler fall temperatures in Georgia. The beautiful fall foliage can be viewed from the Summit Skyride, and you can find a walking trail perfect for your entire family. Take a hike to the top of the mountain and enjoy a picnic surrounded by nature’s colors. Enjoy the Native American Festival in early November, and Stone Mountain Christmas begins November 11th!
7. Atlanta Botanical Garden:
Do yourself a favor and visit the Atlanta Botanical Garden during the fall. The garden is filled with vibrant fall colors and 30 acres of natural beauty. Visit the Scarecrows in the Garden exhibit, and in mid-November, experience the Garden Lights, Holiday Nights exhibit.
8. World of Coca-Cola:
Located downtown and close to the Georgia Aquarium, touring the World of Coca-Cola is a great way to spend a fall day. Here you’ll learn about the history and magic of the iconic Coca-Cola brand. They offer a fascinating tour, where you can sample different Coca-Cola products from around the world, and enjoy interactive exhibits that will keep kids of all ages entertained. The kids always love the samples!
9. Chattahoochee Nature Center:
Escape the hustle and bustle of the city and visit the Chattahoochee Nature Center in Roswell, GA. Here you can explore the trails, observe wildlife, and participate in educational programs. The Center has Family Fun Days with themed activities that help you connect with nature. The Enchanted Woodland Trail beginning in December is a favorite with families!
10. Centennial Olympic Park:
Centennial Olympic Park is located in downtown Atlanta, and was built for the 1996 Summer Olympics. It offers a vibrant green space in the heart of downtown. Enjoy a picnic with the kids, and take a leisurely stroll to admire the fall foliage. Don’t forget to check the park’s calendar for special events and concerts. Its near the Aquarium and the World of Coca-Cola, so you can make a full day in the downtown area doing a little bit of everything!
