Easy Dollar Tree Heart Banner (Under $5!)
This Dollar Tree heart banner is one of my favorite easy wins. It’s inexpensive, quick to make, and looks sweet without being over-the-top.
I don’t love spending a lot of money on Valentine’s Day decor as I don’t tend to keep it up in the house for very long, so I love an easy and inexpensive DIY project.
I made this with supplies I grabbed in one quick Dollar Tree run, and it’s simple enough that kids can help (which I always count as a bonus and part of school).

Easy Dollar Tree Heart Banner
This banner works beautifully on a mantel, along a shelf, over a window, or even strung across a wall in a homeschool room (which is what I did!)
Supplies (All Dollar Tree)
You don’t need everything shown in the photo — this project is very forgiving.

Here’s what I used:
- Foam heart shapes (red and pink)
- Mini foam hearts (white and pink)
- Baker’s twine
- Mini clothespins
- Decorative Valentine ribbon (optional, for bows)
Scissors are the only non–Dollar Tree item you’ll need.
How to Make a Dollar Tree Heart Banner
Step 1: Cut your twine
Cut a length of baker’s twine to fit the space where you want to hang your banner. I usually cut it a little longer than needed so I can adjust once it’s up.
Step 2: Clip on the hearts
Using the mini clothespins, clip the large foam hearts onto the twine. I purposely kept it kind of random for this wall.

Step 3: Add smaller hearts
Tuck the small foam hearts in between the larger ones. These fill in the gaps and make the banner feel fuller without needing more big pieces.
Step 4: Make simple ribbon bows (optional)
Cut short pieces of ribbon and either tie a bow or pinch the center and clip it with a clothespin. Clip the bows onto the twine wherever you want a little extra detail.
Step 5: Hang and adjust
Hang your banner using nails, hooks, or removable wall hooks. Slide the pieces around until it feels evenly spaced.

That’s it. No glue, no measuring, no stress.
Cost Breakdown
Here’s what this banner cost me using Dollar Tree items:
Foam heart packs: $1.25 each (I used one red and one pink/purple pack)
Mini foam hearts: $1.25
Baker’s twine: $1.25
Mini clothespins: $1.25
Ribbon (optional): $1.25
Total cost without ribbon: about $5
Total cost with ribbon: about $6.25
You’ll likely have leftovers, especially twine and clothespins, which can be reused for other projects.
Why I Love This Banner
This is the kind of decor I actually enjoy making:
- It’s inexpensive
- It doesn’t require special tools
- It’s easy to take down and store
- Kids can help without ruining it
- It looks festive but still simple
I also love that it fits right in with our home without screaming “Valentine’s Day exploded in here.”
Easy Variations
If you want to switch it up:
- Use all white hearts for a more neutral look
- Add names or words with a paint pen
- Turn it into a longer banner for a staircase or hallway
- Use leftover ribbon to make a matching garland
This is one of those projects that proves you don’t need fancy supplies or a big budget to make your home feel special.
