Dollar Tree Kitchen Drawer Organization That Actually Stays Put
January looming always puts me in full reset mode, and this year that meant finally tackling some kitchen drawer organization with Dollar Tree finds after months of pretending the mess didn’t exist.
Starting the New Year with just one small, budget-friendly project made our kitchen feel calmer almost instantly and it only took a few Dollar Tree finds to make it happen.
Dollar Tree Kitchen Drawer Organization
I’ve tried organizing drawers before, only to open them a week later and find every tray shifted, every divider crooked, and the chaos fully back in charge. I wanted something cheap, easy, and actually functional — without buying expensive custom inserts.
Enter: Dollar Tree kitchen drawer organization that actually stays put.
Why Most Drawer Organizers Don’t Work

Here’s the problem with most systems:
- Drawers aren’t perfectly square
- Plastic trays slide around
- Every drawer is a different size
- Nothing stays put once you start using it daily
So instead of trying to force a one-size-fits-all solution, I built a setup that works with the drawer, not against it.
What You’ll Need (All Dollar Tree Finds)
- Plastic drawer organizer trays (various sizes)
- Non-slip shelf liner or adhesive drawer liner
- Small adhesive bumpers or mounting squares (something that is sticky on both sides is best, but I couldn’t find anything but felt bumpers at DT)
- Measuring tape
- Scissors or utility knife
- Glue gun and glue sticks (optional)
Total cost: usually under $10 per drawer.
Step 1: Empty the Drawer and De-Junk
You need a blank slate.
Take everything out, wipe it down, and admire the chaos you’re about to eliminate. I took this opportunity to get rid of a few items, and move some things elsewhere.
Step 2: Cut a Liner to Fit

Non-slip is great, but I used a smooth liner with adhesives because I knew I’d be attaching the drawers to the liner, so I didn’t want it moving.
- Cut the drawer liner so it fits your drawer bottom exactly.
- Lay it flat/attach the adhesive before adding anything else.
Step 3: Dry-Fit Your Dollar Tree Trays

Before sticking anything down, lay all your trays in place:
- Mix sizes to fill the drawer edge-to-edge
- Leave zero gaps whenever possible
- Adjust spacing until it feels natural for how you use the drawer
Don’t aim for perfection — aim for usable.
Tip: Before you head to the store, take a quick look through your drawer and note the sizes and shapes you’ll actually need — it saves you from buying a bunch of trays that don’t fit and makes the whole project faster and cheaper.
Step 4: Lock Them in Place
Once you’re happy with the layout:
- Add 1–2 adhesive bumpers or mounting squares under each tray
- Press firmly onto the liner
I couldn’t find double-sided adhesive bumpers at my local Dollar Tree, so I grabbed the felt bumpers instead and simply hot-glued the non-sticky side directly to the trays.
Side note: I also clipped off the tiny built-in “feet” on the trays so I could add my own bumpers in that spot. This step isn’t required, but it helped the bumpers reach the drawer bottom properly and kept the trays from sitting too high.

Once everything is set, the trays won’t slide, twist, or drift over time.
Step 5: Put Everything Back — With Zones
Create little homes for your stuff:
- One tray for measuring spoons
- One for spatulas
- One for scissors, peelers, and weird tools that never fit anywhere
When everything has a spot, it actually stays organized.

Why This Works So Well
- The liner attaches to the drawer
- The adhesive holds the trays
- The trays are custom-fit instead of forced
It doesn’t look fancy — but it works. And that’s the goal.
Cost Breakdown (Per Drawer)
Drawers Trays: $1.25/each – I bought 5 for this drawer
Liner: $1.25
Adhesive bumpers: $1.25
Total: $8.75
Final Thoughts
You don’t need expensive organizers to have a functional kitchen — you just need a system that makes sense for real life.
This Dollar Tree kitchen drawer organization has survived kids, cooking messes, and daily drawer slamming – and it still looks the same weeks later.
